My original paintings explore the relationships between the world we live in and the worlds we sense, but can’t perceive directly. Phantasmagoric patterns riff in and out of natural subject matter, yielding imagery that is at once contemplative and energetic. When I paint, I examine the life forms and landscapes we so often take for granted, and try to conjure what their secret lives might reveal. My pieces weave together the fleeting and the eternal, the ordinary and the Divine.
- Elise Thomason
Biography
A native of Albertville, Alabama, Elise Thomason earned a BFA (summa cum laude) at Auburn University.
Thomason began her career as an internationally award-winning graphic designer and illustrator (see EliseThomason.com), a career in which she designed the look of an Olympic Winter Games (Torino 2006) and created imaging and design systems for national and international clients such as Coca-Cola, Visa, Volkswagen, André 3000 of OutKast, the State of Georgia, The U.S. Virgin Islands, and many more.
In recent years Thomason has integrated more fine art endeavors into her practice. In 2021, she founded Elise Thomason Print Studio (EliseThomasonPrintStudio.com), an online gallery of fine art prints of hundreds of objects, plants, and animals that helps people use art to tell their life stories. In the summer of 2022, Thomason began to paint regularly, as a way to explore new artistic territory. She has participated in shows throughout the Southeast since 2022.
Thomason lives in Atlanta with her husband, Chuck, and their son, Charles.
